Black Thrive Global (BTG) has announced the official publication of 'Black Voices on Policing', a series of reports produced by Black Thrive Global in collaboration with Psi. The work was delivered to the Mayor’s Office in the fourth Quarter of 2023 and has now been officially published this month.

This body of work gathers the experiences and ideas of London’s diverse Black communities on how to build a credible, representative, and impactful model of community-led scrutiny of policing. It represents a valuable contribution to the evidence base that has led to a Mayoral commitment to build a new model for police scrutiny, one that makes it easier for all Londoners to scrutinise police work and influence change.

Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime, Kaya Comer-Schwartz, emphasised the importance of this work:

"This is an important body of work that represents a valuable contribution to the wider evidence base that has led to a Mayoral commitment to build a new model for police scrutiny... The Commissioner, the Mayor, and I remain more committed than ever to implementing a robust and transparent framework of community police scrutiny that is truly representative of London."

A summary of Black Thrive Global:

Since 2016 Black Thrive in Lambeth has been working with statutory and community partners to address the inequalities that Black people face throughout their lives which negatively impact their mental health and wellbeing, experiences, and outcomes. Black Thrive Global evolved from the work of Black Thrive Lambeth.

It was founded upon the common understanding that wherever Black people of African and Caribbean descent are located, detrimental outcomes persist. We determined that focused Black Leadership which facilitates systems change will transform the Black experience from surviving into thriving.
