Your voice matters: Patient Carers Race Equality Framework

Catalyst 4 Change has been commissioned by Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health Foundation Trust to gather the views and experiences of the Black communities about statutory mental services and how they can be improved.

This feedback will contribute to the development of a Patient Carers Race Equality Framework (PCREF).

What is a Patient Carers Race Equality Framework?

PCREF is a NHS document that sets out how mental health trusts will ensure that their services are more accessible and culturally responsive to Black, Asian and minority communities.

The development of PCREF is being led by NHS England and NHS Improvement, the organisation that leads the NHS in England.

Over the summer Catalyst 4 Change has held several conversations with Black communities, service users and carers and have heard some very powerful stories of what has worked well and how services could be redesigned and delivered in a way that will better meet the needs of Birmingham’s diverse Black community.

We will share the outcomes of these discussions in our next e-newsletter.

A critical part of developing the PCREF is learning from patients, carers and communities to make sure services are focussing on what matters to Black communities.
